Plain concrete gets overlooked a lot. It does its job, you walk on it every day, and it just kind of sits there looking dull and worn. But when you actually prep it right and put a seal on it, the difference is night and day. That's exactly what this side yard walkway needed.
Here's what we were working with - a long, narrow concrete run between the house and the fence. Not a glamorous space, but one that gets used constantly. We brought in our planetary grinder to open up the surface, which is what you see happening mid-job. That multi-head tooling isn't just for show. It levels out the surface and pulls out any laitance so the sealer actually bonds instead of just sitting on top and peeling off later.
Once the grind was done and the surface was vacuumed clean with the dustless extraction setup, we moved into sealing. You can see the pump sprayer and the flat applicator being worked down the length of the slab. The sealer goes on in thin, even coats - not slapped on thick. That's how you get a finish that holds up to foot traffic, weather, and UV without looking patchy or uneven.
The end result is a sealed surface with a clean, consistent sheen and a noticeably deeper grey tone across the whole slab. It's still concrete - it hasn't been painted or coated over. A grind and seal lets the actual material show through, just cleaner and better protected. Low maintenance, long-lasting, and a whole lot sharper looking than it was before.
That's what we love about this kind of work. It's not flashy from the outside, but it's done right underneath. A surface that's properly ground and sealed is going to resist staining, shed water, and stay looking good for years. If you've got concrete sitting around that's seen better days, this process is worth a serious look.
